The new LD-water model should give students a better insight into the process of the oxygen steelmaking using an LD converter. Measurements of the mass transfer coefficient, the penetration depth and the mixing time with different lance tips and various configurations of the bottom purging nozzles will give our students the possibility to get a theoretical insight with practical examples. voestalpine Stahl Linz generously gifted the plexiglass model; Lumar Metals from Brazil produced the lance and lance tips. Colleagues of the K1-MET GmbH supported by our exchange student of UFMG, Belo Horizonte, rebuilt and maintained the model together.
