During the laboratory exercises on “Steel Metallurgy – Processes”, the students had the opportunity to gain exclusive insight into the reduction metallurgy of voestalpine Stahl Linz. The focus was on the following areas:
- Coke plant
- sintering plant
- blast furnace
- secondary metallurgy
The individual process steps were not only explained in detail by the employees of the respective areas, but one also had the opportunity to see the plants up close. Above all, the tapping of the blast furnace and the cooling process of the coke remained a lasting memory.
The day was rounded off with sandwiches and drinks and further interesting discussions about the newly gained knowledge and current topics in steel production. Finally, we would like to thank DI Dr. mont. Christoph Thaler and his colleagues for their kind hospitality during our visit.
