After a break of two years due to the pandemic, the first main excursion of the Chair of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy took place again from 4-14 July 2022. 14 students in the field of metallurgy and recycling technology attented the excursion accompanied by two supervisors and the head of the chair, Prof. Antrekowitsch. On the approximately 1700 km long route, the ten metallurgical companies in Austria and Germany listed below were visited:
- Wieland Austria Ges.m.b.H
- Hütte Klein-Reichenbach GmbH
- EBNER Industrieofenbau GmbH
- AMAG Austria Metall AG
- GfE Gesellschaft für Elektrometallurgie mbH
- Ceratizit Group
- Plansee SE
- Montanwerke Brixlegg AG
- Ecobat
- Treibacher Industrie AG
The participants gained detailed insights into primary and secondary metallurgical extraction and processing methods for copper, aluminium, lead, various refractory metals and rare earths as well as plant engineering. Thanks to the informative plant tours and the resulting discussions, the participants were able to deepen their theoretical knowledge in the areas of pyro-, hydro- and powder metallurgy. In addition, valuable contacts were made in the regional industry.
In addition to the numerous company visits, there was also time for extensive leisure activities during the excursion. Apart from the wine cellar of the HKB, various bathing lakes, restaurants and pubs such as karaoke bars and brew pubs were visited. In addition, the sportsmanship could be proven in go-karting in Munich, while Therme Erding offered a well-deserved break for relaxation.
For the successful excursion, the participating students would like to thank the Chair of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy for the organisation and implementation, especially the two supervisors, David Neuschitzer and David Scheiblehner. Furthermore, a big thank you goes to the visited companies for the exciting and detailed insights into the metallurgical industry as well as to the sponsors for the financial support.
