It has been a tradition at the chairs of metallurgy for several years that students are given the opportunity to do an internship at the university. In this way, the interns can gain first experiences in the professional world, and especially in research.
This year, despite Corona, we were able to bring some young, motivated and committed people to the university.
So Tabea, Benedikt and Markus had the opportunity to complete their internship at the chair for modelling and simulation of metallurgical processes. They not only had the opportunity to support their colleagues in administrative tasks. They were also allowed to help with practical experiments and to carry out experiments themselves.
This summer, the Chair of Iron and Steel Metallurgy was able to offer a total of four interested students the opportunity for an internship at the university.
Julia, Nathalie, Robert and Alexander completed their practical training over the whole summer and were also able to gain initial insights into metallurgical research. All four of them were able to prove themselves on different research topics and actively support their colleagues with literature research, but also practical work in the laboratory. The four were also given the opportunity to support our colleagues with their experiments.
We hope that all trainees enjoyed their time with us and that we were able to convey to them why metallurgy is the most exciting discipline for us.
We also wish them all the best for their future, and of course we would be very happy to welcome them as metallurgy first years at the university in the future.
The interns were supervised by Dr. Mogeritsch for the Chair of Modelling and Simulation of Metallurgical Processes, and by Dipl.-Ing. Kirchheimer for the Chair of Iron and Steel Metallurgy.
