For the third time in a row, Leoben Metallurgy took a top 20 place in the Shanghai Ranking in the category “Metallurgical Engineering” among 200 listed universities. Since 2009, the Shanghai Ranking evaluates the number of publications in Q1 journals, the CNC impact of the publications and the number of publications with international partners. Only three faculties of Austrian universities made it into the top field. The Department of Metallurgy is currently home to four Christian Doppler laboratories and is involved in several competence centres. Nearly 100 scientific employees conduct research in intensive cooperation with the metallurgical industry in Austria and around the world.

The Leoben Metallurgy Department is part of a network of international universities, the partner universities such as USTB (China) or PosTech (Korea) are also at the top of the Shanghai Ranking. In Europe, Leoben Metallurgy ranks second, a sensational result for Austrian metallurgy research!
