From 04 to 07 July 2022, the Department of Metallurgy and Metal Recycling invited students to the MetalDays in Leoben.
For the thirteenth time, the Department of Metallurgy and Metal Recycling invited students from all over Austria and Germany to Leoben for the annual MetalDays. Over four days, the entire field of study was presented: from ferrous metallurgy, non-ferrous metallurgy, metal forming as well as casting research and simulation. Each of the chair presentations was a combination of lectures, question and answer sessions, visits to workshops and laboratories and active stations.
Thus, the participants could not only find out what the current research trends in metallurgy are and what the study of metallurgy and metal recycling actually involves, but also cast zinc themselves and make their own mould.
Apart from these points on the programme, the participants also visited voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH and the Styrian Erzberg, including an exhibition mine and a Hauly ride. In addition to these highlights, the traditional graduates’ evening took place: Four graduates of metallurgy took time to share with the students their very personal careers and experiences with their studies.
“My favourite part was the tour at voestalpine Donawitz, amazed faces gazed at the blast furnace and the heat of the glowing rails could be felt through the glass. The MetalDays give you a great insight into metallurgy and a good picture of studying at the university. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity!”, Larissa Pichler-Steßl sums up.
“Once again the Metallurgy and Metal Recycling Department was able to organise a festival for interested and motivated students – as always with great support from our industry sponsors. It was great to see how scientific staff and our graduates made an effort to make our young guests feel welcome. The feedback speaks for itself, many thanks to all involved!”. – Ao.Univ.Prof. Dr. Christian Bernhard, Chair of FerrousMetallurgy.
