From October 26th – 28th Johannes Schenk and Michael Bernhard attended at the 2022 KIM Conference at Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. The event was organized at the International Convention Center (ICC) close to Seogwipo city.
In a special symposium focusing on decarbonization in ironmaking and steelmaking processes, Prof. Schenk gave an invited lecture on “Initiatives of the EU steel industry to mitigate CO2 emissions of blast furnace technology”.
Michael Bernhard presented recent research on the influence of boron on solidification and phase transformations in steel (“Experimental investigations and CALPHAD-type optimizations of selected binary and ternary phase diagrams in the Fe-C-B-P system”).
Further, two posters on the current status of the solidification model m2CAST (“Simulation of solidification in continuous slab casting and implementation of quality prediction criteria”) and the NRF project at GIFT dealing with “CALPHAD modeling of ferrous scrap based steel system containing Cu and Sn: Development of a Fe-C-S-Cu-Sn multicomponent thermodynamic database” were discussed.
